Professor Yanfeng Luo invited to the matchmaking symposium of the (proposed) Southwest Digital Bio-City project and the Tianwen Chamber of Commerce pharmaceutical industry alliance
Recently, a matchmaking symposium for the proposed Southwest Digital Biocity Project and the Tianwen Chamber of Commerce Pharmaceutical Industry Alliance was held. Professor Luo Yanfeng attended the event as an invited expert. Discussions focused on the overall planning of the Southwest Digital Biocity Project, the development of a smart pharmaceutical ecosystem, digital transformation of the pharmaceutical industry, and industry–academia–research collaboration. Participants exchanged views on pharmaceutical e-commerce, GSP-compliant warehousing, digital pharmaceutical software development, supply-chain integration, and the alignment of academic research resources with industrial needs, exploring new models and potential pathways for digitally enabled pharmaceutical industry development.

Recently, Professor Yanfeng Luo and Dr. Shilong Mao attended an exchange symposium of the Party Working Committee and Management Committee of Mianyang Economic Development Zone, and held in-depth exchanges with relevant departments and participating representatives on biomedical material technology innovation, transformation of scientific research results, and industry-academia-research collaborative cooperation. At the meeting, Professor Yanfeng Luo introduced the team's research progress in biodegradable shape memory polyurethane and its high-value applications, and discussed the effective connection between research results and industrial needs, laying a good foundation for further deepening university-local cooperation and promoting the transformation of scientific and technological results in the biomedical materials field.

Dr. Shanshan Liu invited to the Oncology Medicine-Engineering Integration Academic Series Conference and gave a thematic report
On September 12, 2026, Professor Yanfeng Luo and Dr. Shanshan Liu were invited to attend the Oncology Medicine-Engineering Integration Academic Series Conference hosted by the Chongqing Hospital Association, and gave a thematic report entitled "Study of degradable polyurethane in tumor radiotherapy localization". The conference brought together oncology backbone professionals and discipline leaders from medical institutions at all levels across the country and Chongqing. The report shared research progress on degradable polyurethane biomaterials in tumor radiotherapy localization, and during the conference, the team conducted full academic exchange with clinical experts and research peers, further deepening the collaborative cooperation between the group and medical institutions and research institutes. Rooted in actual clinical needs, the group strives to advance the transformation and implementation of medicine-engineering interdisciplinary research results, contributing research strength to improving the level of regional oncology diagnosis and treatment technology.

The Laboratory for Smart and Bioinspired Materials held activities for new-student orientation, safety education, and graduate experience sharing
To help new students integrate into the laboratory, become familiar with the research environment, and strengthen safety awareness, the Laboratory for Smart and Bioinspired Materials carried out activities for new-student orientation, safety education and training, and graduate experience sharing. New students Xuanran Luo, Yikun Wang, Wenzhuo Zhang, Huaining Xiong, Bingying Xiao, and others gave self-introductions; senior fellow student W gave special training on laboratory safety and regulations; and Professor Yanfeng Luo and Professor Xuemei Jiang provided on-site guidance and exchange. Meanwhile, PhD graduates Senior X and Senior Z shared their experiences in study, research, experimental planning, and personal growth based on their own research careers. This activity further enhanced understanding and communication among laboratory members, strengthened awareness of safety regulations, and promoted the inheritance of the laboratory's fine research culture and team spirit.

On July 30, 2026, the ten-year graduation reunion of the Laboratory for Smart and Bioinspired Materials was successfully held. The reunion was organized under the leadership of Jinchuan Wu, the laboratory's most senior fellow student, with graduates from past cohorts traveling from various places with their families to review the laboratory's ten-year development journey by the lake and share updates on their work and life. The event was warm and lively, and the teacher-student bond remained as strong as ever.

The Laboratory for Smart and Bioinspired Materials appeared at the 11th National Biomedical Engineering Competition
From July 18 to 20, 2026, the 11th National College Student Biomedical Engineering Innovation Design Competition was held in Sanya, Hainan. The Laboratory for Smart and Bioinspired Materials of Chongqing University (supervisor: Yanfeng Luo) sent a graduate team to compete, choosing topics around the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory and digestive system diseases, and submitted two results: "Biomimetic self-reinforcing osteoinductive absorbable polyurethane membrane and its application in guided bone regeneration" (work ID: 2077) by student Hongyu Qian, and "Body-temperature-responsive smart degradable anti-adhesion film and its application after minimally invasive surgery" (work ID: 1717) by student Xiwan Wang. Both works won the national third prize of the competition.

Building a medicine-engineering interdisciplinary platform | Professor Yanfeng Luo's team invited to the Oncology Medicine-Engineering Integration Academic Conference
On February 1, at the invitation of Xiuyong Liao, director of the Oncology Department of Qianjiang Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing University, Professor Yanfeng Luo led the team to attend the "Oncology Medicine-Engineering Integration Academic Conference" organized by the hospital's Oncology Department. In his remarks, Professor Yanfeng Luo emphasized the importance of deep integration of engineering technology and clinical medicine for solving complex oncology diagnosis and treatment problems. In the report session, Professor Na Li introduced "Innovative drug transformation research on Yifei Tongbi Granules for treating interstitial pneumonia", and Professor Yufei Ma shared "Medicine-engineering integration transformation research on cysteine-functionalized biomimetic hydrogels for repairing brain injury". In the discussion session, clinical experts and the team held in-depth discussions on "clinical pain points and solutions for obstruction in esophageal cancer patients" and proposed multiple cooperation ideas. This invited visit further strengthened the research orientation of Professor Yanfeng Luo's group toward "meeting clinical needs and empowering oncology diagnosis and treatment with engineering technology". The group will take this opportunity to deepen collaboration with hospitals and research institutes, focus on clinical needs to promote the transformation of research results, and help improve the level of regional oncology diagnosis and treatment.

As an association member, Professor Yanfeng Luo chaired the thematic session "New Technologies, New Devices, and New Equipment in Mechanobiology of Materials - 3" and gave an academic report entitled "A dynamic mechanical loading platform driven by smart materials", engaging in in-depth exchange and discussion with attending experts and scholars! LSBM 2025 welcome meeting successfully held, joining hands to embark on a new journey of development
On September 27, 2025, the LSBM welcome meeting was warmly opened and successfully concluded in Meeting Room 431 of the college. The meeting centered on "welcoming new friends and growing together". At the meeting, the four new students Hongyu Qian, Xingyu Liu, Jiayi He, and Kai Lu gave sincere and lively self-introductions in turn. During the meeting, Professor Yanfeng Luo and Associate Professor Xuemei Jiang warmly welcomed the four new members. Combining LSBM's development philosophy and academic atmosphere, the two teachers encouraged the new members to adapt to the new environment and integrate into the research team as soon as possible, while also maintaining a spirit of exploration and perseverance in research, contributing to the development of the college. Although brief, this welcome meeting built a bridge of communication between new and existing members and further united the collective strength of LSBM. On July 21, 2025, the LSBM annual summary meeting was successfully held in Meeting Room 625 of the college. The students took turns reviewing their growth and gains this semester, candidly analyzed the existing shortcomings, and made preliminary plans for the work direction of the new semester. Professor Yanfeng Luo and Associate Professor Xuemei Jiang fully affirmed each student's efforts and encouraged everyone to keep up the good work and achieve even better results. The students reviewed the main experiences of 2024, summarized the gains and shortcomings, and expressed expectations for study and life in 2025. On February 17, 2023, the Laboratory for Smart and Bioinspired Materials successfully held its spring opening ceremony. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Professor Yuanliang Wang, founder of the laboratory, and senior fellow student Jinfeng Wang, who is doing postdoctoral research at the Institute of Systems and Physical Biology of Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. The project "Study on Synthesis Technology of 1,4-Butanediol-Based Polycarbonate Diol" officially launched
On July 14, 2022, Professor Yanfeng Luo and Associate Professor Xuemei Jiang of LSBM, together with Minister Qikui Xu and Researcher Huaying Huang of the Lutianhua Innovation Research Institute, held the kick-off meeting of the project "Study on Synthesis Technology of 1,4-Butanediol-Based Polycarbonate Diol" at our university. The project is funded by the Lutianhua Innovation Research Institute, with LSBM undertaking the relevant research. At the meeting, the two sides established the detailed research content and research plan of the project, announcing its official launch!

On November 16, 2021, the online completion-acceptance meeting of the 13th Five-Year National Key R&D Program project "Key technology and clinical application of powder-bed electron beam additive manufacturing of personalized porous tantalum implant prostheses" was successfully held. Professor Yanfeng Luo, principal investigator of the sub-project "Rapid modeling and analysis technology of personalized porous tantalum implant prostheses", together with participating researchers, attended the video meeting in Meeting Room 431 of the College of Bioengineering, Zone B, Chongqing University.
